We may in future be private breeders of high end captive bred Bearded Dragons such as Leatherback, Translucent's, Hypo and Silkback Bearded Dragons in the UK. However, at this moment in time I've developed this website to share general information and how to care for these beautiful reptiles.
Bearded Dragons (Pogona vitticeps) are one for 6 to 7 common lizards in the Pogona family from central parts of Australia. They can grow up to 24” in length and the average length of 18-20” for captive bred dragons. Males tend to be slightly larger than females, but this is only in length because females tend to be the heavier of the two.
This species of Bearded Dragons get their name from a distinctive series of spikes radiating horizontally from the head and base of the tail. Both males and females are capable of inflating the beard to ward off predators. Males will also inflate their beard (usually accompanied by it darkening) during encounters with other dragons, when threatened, and especially during breeding. The darkening of beards however are not just limited to males, as females will also occasionally darken their beards and will even head bob on occasions.
Bearded Dragons make excellent exotic pets for children and adults! a like. Due to their natural tameness, they are very docile and far more tolerant of handling than many other lizards. Their husbandry and care requirements are relatively easy to maintain. A Bearded Dragon will make a good lizard for someone who is new to keeping reptiles.
